ISLAMABAD, September 19, 2026 — Pakistan has slightly reduced petrol prices and high-speed diesel prices from Saturday, while political tensions remain elevated as Jamaat-e-Islami prepares a march towards Islamabad and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans a separate protest in the capital later this month.

The government reduced the petrol price by Rs1.65 per litre, bringing it to Rs389.14, while the price of high-speed diesel fell by Rs0.88 to Rs424.04 per litre. The revised prices are effective from September 19 to September 21.

    Petrol Prices and Fuel Relief

The latest reduction comes after several fuel-price increases in recent weeks amid volatility in international oil markets. The government has attributed recent changes to movements in global petroleum prices and related pricing factors.

The reduction is relatively small compared with the increases announced earlier in September. On September 16, the government had raised petrol by Rs6.88 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs5.62 per litre.

The government has also introduced a targeted fuel-relief scheme for lower-income consumers. Under the programme, eligible users of motorcycles and three-wheelers can receive Rs500 per week, while users of cars up to 800cc can receive Rs1,000 for 10 days, subject to eligibility conditions.

The Petroleum Division is also working with fuel dealers and other stakeholders to maintain supplies and implement the relief mechanism.

    Political Pressure Over Islamabad Marches

The fuel-price issue has become a major point of political pressure. Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a nationwide mobilisation towards Islamabad beginning on September 20, demanding lower oil prices and changes to the petroleum levy.

JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said the party would continue its campaign while seeking further talks with the government. Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has invited JI representatives for another round of discussions over the party’s demand for abolition of the petroleum levy.

Separately, PTI has announced a nationwide protest and long march towards Islamabad for September 27, with the release of party founder Imran Khan among its stated demands.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said the government will enforce the Islamabad High Court’s ruling concerning the use of public roads, highways and government facilities during political protests. Authorities have also prepared measures to deal with possible attempts to enter the federal capital.

    What Comes Next

The immediate focus is expected to remain on fuel prices, government relief measures and the two planned political mobilisations.

The JI march is scheduled to begin on September 20, while PTI has announced its Islamabad protest for September 27. At the same time, the government faces pressure to manage fuel costs and maintain supplies as international energy markets remain volatile.
